This one-year MSc is provided in an innovative partnership between NHS Education Scotland, the University of Edinburgh and NHS Greater
Glasgow and Clyde. The programme has been developed in line with current NHS strategies to equip honours psychology graduates to
deliver psychological assessments and interventions to children and young people with mild to moderate psychological, emotional and
behavioural difficulties within an early intervention framework. The programme offers trainees a unique challenge to provide psychological knowledge and clinical competency to this demanding and stimulating area of clinical practice and service development.
The next intake to the programme will be in February 2011. Successful completion of the programme will allow graduates to apply for Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (Children and Young People) or other similar posts. MSc trainees will be salaried NHS employees based in one of a range of local Health Boards across Scotland and will be required to meet set academic and supervised clinical practice objectives.
Applicants will have the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society and an honours degree in
Psychology (normally 2:1 or above). Those successful will have knowledge of psychological theory and research at graduate level as well being able to demonstrate an interest in developmental psychology and in working with children and young people. Applicants should be able to reflect on any work / voluntary experience in relation to the role of a Trainee Clinical Associate working with these groups. Knowledge or experience of relevant areas such as education, social care or health care settings may be advantageous.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
